Our passion to provide natural resources for wellness to the world is the foundation of The Farmacy.
It was December of 2011 when we first began the journey of natural wellness. Our 18 month old son had been diagnosed with Gastrointestinal Reflux Disease as an infant. The first year and a half of his life was spent in constant pain due to this disease which resulted in countless sleepless nights and a fear of developmental issues. We had been utilizing formula intended to relieve this pain, but it was ineffective. We attempted to remove certain baby foods from his diet, to no avail. The only time he was at peace was when he was cradled in his daddy's arms and this was how he slept. Until, one day as tired and desperate parents we travelled to a nearby city that began carrying organic baby food and purchased some for our son. This was at a time when organic was just a "fad" and our hometown had no organic food available. We began feeding him an organic diet and within 2 weeks his stomach issues were reduced by 90%. This lead us to a path into organic fruit and vegetable farming. In 2013, we began Salem Farms. Being first generation farmers, our production methods are unbiased and include aquaponics, high intensity gardening and companion planting among other "unconventional" farming methods.
We began our research of industrial hemp cultivation began in 2018 with a personal desire to discover the benefits of high quality hemp derived products in our home. "CBD" had become all the buzz in the natural wellness community. Upon research of the endocannabinoid system, we quickly became excited about the possibility of this dormant bodily system. With so many brands and supply chains in the industry, we decided if we were going to truly know the benefit of products utilizing CBD as an ingredient, we would need to make our own products. Research and development began in early 2018. By the end of the year we had determined what products our family utilized most regularly and began optimization of formulation, and the Farmacy brand was born on November 23, 2018.
As organic farmers, this "experiment" with CBD as an active ingredient in all natural products allowed us the opportunity to determine if we should produce industrial hemp on our farm. Our thought was that if these products benefit our already healthy lifestyle, then we can see the benefit of growing hemp commercially.
We spent over 18 months adjusting formulation and conducting product trials with our family and friends. In 2020 we launched a line of high quality all natural artisan products that work to benefit their users in multiple ways. Our testimonials and feedback show efficacy at providing pain relief, better sleep, sun protection, an overall better sense of well being, reduced anxiety and positive results in skin issues such as acne and eczema.
In 2019, we began our journey into the production of a high CBD industrial hemp crop while continuing to produce a reduced amount of fruits and vegetables for our community on a weekly basis. Although there were many forces working against us from weather to weeds to pests, to labor shortages, we successfully harvested our first hemp crop. This crop produced a very high distillate product containing a good amount of CBD along with other cannabinoids and terpenes. Since we used a similar organic growing methodology as we use in produce, the aflatoxin and heavy metals tests were not able to find any such substances in our distillate.
Much went into creating high quality, all natural skincare and wellness products that provide optimal performance at an economical price. We utilize high quality all natural essential and carrier oils as our ingredients in addition to broad spectrum CBD derived from organically grown hemp in all of our product lines. These other natural ingredients contribute their own benefit to the cause of providing overall wellness to the user.
The Farmacy line of product is produced with high quality ingredients and hemp distillate derived from plants produced by environmentally conscious farmers in the Midwest.
